Starting in college

Written on Tuesday, October 11th, 2011 at 10:58 am

It has been a crazy few weeks with starting a Masters in Jazz in the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.  Surrounded by great musicians and a great new building, life has taken a turn for new pastures and hopefully the start of a great experience. Watch this space!….

Lost Chord tour brings a smile or two..

Written on Tuesday, October 11th, 2011 at 10:56 am

Lost chord has expanded this year to 15 concerts each month. The scheme is wonderful and takes live music to old people’s homes around Cardiff. In September, Jo Thomas and I had the pleasure of playing to so many people, many of whom were suffering with dementia and alzheimers. There were some wonderful responses, many […]

Requests galore…the quirkier the better..

Written on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011 at 10:16 am

The last few weeks have been busy with weddings and the requests keep rolling in. So far, Usher, Eminem, Beach Boys, Guns n Roses are just a few which have made it on to the harp. Some things work better than others..but there isn’t much that I won’t try…It’s quite funny when (usually men!) walk […]

It’s a shame I can’t fit a harp on a Vespa..

Written on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011 at 10:11 am

Sunday was spent in hot leathers and a helmet training on a motorbike ready for college. I’m starting an MA in Jazz in a few weeks and thought it might be a good idea to moped my way to college. It’s quite strange not to be surrounded by 4 wheels and lots of metal, with […]

Wedding season in full swing…

Written on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011 at 10:08 am

It has been a fantastic season for beautiful weddings, with alot being held outside. This week I played in Essex in an outside pavillion for Vicky and Jimmy. It was perfectly timed with the rain arriving just as they went in to eat. Vicky had spent so much time picking music and the atmosphere was […]

Written on Friday, July 15th, 2011 at 10:28 am

It’s a busy time with weddings across the country, practising all the requests for brides and trying to enjoy some sunshine when it appears! This week I was playing at Le Manoir for the Orient Express group.  The Royal Scotsman and its guests had come to Oxford at the end of a weeks tour and […]

Raymond Blanc and ring bearing bunnies!!

Written on Friday, May 20th, 2011 at 9:47 am

On Sunday I had the pleasure of playing for John and Janine Sawh at Le Manoir in Oxford. The hotel, famous for Chef Raymond Blanc and his recent TV series, is absolutely beautiful! John and Janine, after their very emotional ceremony (including rings delivered on rabbits) very kindly invited me to a gastro experience of 9 courses…the […]

Lost chord expands

Written on Friday, May 20th, 2011 at 9:42 am

It was a busy week (9-13th May) with the expansion of Lost Chord in South Wales. For the last few years, every month, 6 homes were receiving a regular Lost Chord concert and this week, Jo Thomas (mezzo soprano) and I had the pleasure of meeting and playing for the additional 8 homes to join the scheme. […]

Velindre Hospital Charity evening

Written on Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 at 10:28 am

On Friday 25th March, Lewis Ballards Accountants held a fantastic fundraising evening for the second year running in the Marriott Hotel Cardiff. It was my pleasure to be asked back to play during their drinks reception, playing for nearly 300 supporters of the charity. Let’s hope the evening raised plenty of money for such a […]
